How does the Ameren Illinois multifamily program work?

Ameren Illinois offers multifamily owners a free property assessment, then no-cost and low-cost measures and incentives. How it works in central Illinois.

Jorge Robaina ·

The Ameren Illinois multifamily program starts with a free assessment of the property by an Ameren Energy Advisor, then offers no-cost and low-cost measures and incentives for upgrades. It covers multifamily properties served by Ameren Illinois across central and southern Illinois, including Springfield, Peoria, Champaign and the Metro East.

What a property receives depends on the building and its residents, with the most support for income-qualified properties.

What the program offers

  • A free 30 to 45 minute property assessment by an Energy Advisor
  • Free and low-cost measures such as LED lighting, advanced power strips and smart thermostats, for eligible properties
  • Incentives for air sealing and attic insulation
  • Separate incentives for public housing authorities

The Illinois Solar for All 2025-2026 resource guide lists the program for properties of three or more units and places the free and low-cost measures under income requirements. Market-rate owners should expect the assessment and incentives first.

How it differs from the Chicago area

Ameren Illinois and ComEd run separate programs. A portfolio with properties in Chicago and in Springfield, for example, enrolls in each program separately, with different measures and paperwork.

How it starts

The owner or manager requests the free assessment, and an Energy Advisor follows up to schedule the property review. The measures and incentives that apply come out of that visit.

Where ONPEAK fits

We request the assessments across your portfolio, check each one against what the program offers so nothing eligible is missed, coordinate residents and staff, and report which savings reach you and which reach residents. If you also own properties in ComEd territory, we handle both programs together. You pay our fee only once the upgrades are approved.
