Introduction: In this case study, we explore how Crown Linen, Florida’s largest laundry service provider, successfully transformed a regular re-roofing project into a sustainable initiative that generated clean energy. By leveraging sustainability, Crown Linen aimed to unlock economic benefits while demonstrating their commitment to environmental responsibility. This case study highlights the objectives, solutions, and outcomes of Crown Linen’s solar transformation project, showcasing the positive impact it had on its operations and the environment.

Objective: The objective of Crown Linen’s project was to utilize sustainability to unlock economic benefits by transforming a regular re-roofing project into a sustainable initiative capable of generating clean energy. By installing solar panels on their roofs, Crown Linen aimed to reduce their reliance on conventional energy sources and capitalize on the potential cost savings associated with clean energy generation.

Solution: To achieve their objective, Crown Linen replaced their roof and installed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The PV systems, mounted on the roofs of their Orlando location, generate clean energy that can be used to fulfill a portion of the building’s energy consumption needs or fed back into the electrical grid. The installation involved close to 800 solar panels, which collectively generate 530,000 kWh of electricity. This not only resulted in significant energy savings of over $55,000 but also helped avoid the emission of 376 metric tons of CO2, equivalent to 42,000 gallons of gasoline consumed, or the preservation of 448 acres of U.S. forests in a year. Additionally, this solar project is expected to save close to 12% of their electricity consumption, providing a reliable and clean energy source for the next 25 years.

Outcome: Crown Linen’s solar transformation project yielded several positive outcomes.

By replacing their roofs and integrating solar PV systems, they were able to generate clean energy on-site, resulting in substantial cost savings on energy expenditure. The significant reduction in their carbon footprint demonstrates Crown Linen’s commitment to environmental sustainability. This initiative also aligns perfectly with Crown Linen’s dedication to sustainability and serves as a positive example for other organizations in the industry.
