Detroit-area apartment buildings with three or more units can claim utility rebates on lighting and appliances, heating and cooling, water heating and insulation, starting with a no-cost energy assessment. Income-qualified properties receive higher rebates.
This applies to properties served by participating utilities in Southeast Michigan. Unlike some programs in Illinois and Minnesota, the upgrades are not installed for free at market-rate properties: the owner completes the work and the rebate reduces the cost.
What owners can expect
- A no-cost energy assessment with a report and next steps
- Rebates on lighting and appliances, HVAC, water heating and insulation
- Higher rebates for income-qualified properties
Where owners lose rebates
Rebates are paid only on work that qualifies and is documented the right way, and the funds are limited each year. Owners lose money when work starts before the project is set up correctly, when eligible equipment is left off the claim, or when the year’s funds run out first. A portfolio with work planned across several buildings has the most to gain from getting this right.
Where ONPEAK fits
We qualify each property, line up the rebates for the work you are planning, check every measure against what qualifies, and prepare the claim. You pay our fee only once the rebates are approved. Our report separates which savings reach the owner from those that reach residents.
How to find out
Send us your property addresses and the upgrades you have planned. We return an eligibility scan within 48 hours of receiving recent bills, showing what each building could claim.
