DTE Energy’s multifamily program pays rebates on lighting and appliances, heating and cooling, water heating and insulation for buildings with three or more units under one roof, and starts with a no-cost energy assessment. Income-qualified properties receive higher rebates.
Unlike the Chicago and Minneapolis programs, DTE does not install measures for free at market-rate properties. The owner completes the upgrades and the rebate reduces their cost.
Which properties qualify
- Three or more units under one roof
- DTE Energy as the gas provider, the electric provider or both
- Apartments, cooperative housing, senior living and similar residential buildings
Eligibility also depends on the type of DTE account. ONPEAK works with owners and operators of properties with 50 units or more.
What the rebates cover
DTE publishes a multifamily rebate catalog with amounts for:
- Lighting and appliances
- Heating, ventilation and cooling
- Water heating
- Insulation
Income-qualified properties use a separate supplement with enhanced rebates.
How the process works
- Request the no-cost assessment, which comes with a report and next steps.
- Get the project approved for rebates before starting work.
- Complete the upgrades with your contractor.
- Submit the rebate application once the work is done.
Why timing matters
Rebate funds are limited and awarded first come, first served. Applying early in the program year gives a project the best chance of being funded.
Where ONPEAK fits
We qualify each property, prepare the applications, check every measure against the catalog so nothing eligible is missed, and prepare the rebate claim. You pay our fee only once the rebates are approved. Our report separates which savings reach the owner from those that reach residents.
